Shake baby, Shake baby, 1, 2, 3

Oops, wrong song.

I was halfway, half-heartedly choreographing a routine to the Glee mash-up of Beyonce’s “Survivor” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I will survive” but I wasn’t feeling it. To me, it felt almost like an ode to another year of pandemania. Why couldn’t we just do something silly and ridiculous like the first year we decided to branch out and dance more than just “Thriller”?

And “Baby Got Back” was stuck in my head all week. Was it a sign?

I whipped out choreography and pitched it to the rest of the Thrill St. Pete Team. There were concerns. A song that was so scandalous when it was first released decades ago might seem harmless and fun to some but it’s a strange social climate we live in right now. Offense is never our intention. So we talked it out. Danced it out. Worked it out until we had something that we all felt sure was pure goof. A celebration of butts of all sizes and a throwback to the days of waving your hands in the air like you just don’t care (there I go, dating myself again).

I hope you smile at this short video of Thrill St. Pete zombies enjoying a gorgeous Sunday on the St. Pete Pier with some shameless bum shaking and the world’s worst band busking (we earned not a penny, by the way haha!)

Okay, that’s not how Grace Slick sings it but that’s how I’m singing it in my own head right now. Welcome to 14 years of community building! Aaaand….pouring fake blood over your head a-la Carrie-style

And we're back!

Well, that was a short trip! Good news! Jennifer, Sherry and Kira are leading Thrill St Pete this season! They're looking to keep things on a smaller scale, while supporting local events we love like
